Child Suffers Burns from Hot Soup Spill in Restaurant

In a recent incident, a child was at a restaurant with her mother.  The child got up to look at some toys in the vending machine and was walking in the restaurant when one of the waiters spilled the contents of a bowl of hot soup onto the child’s head.  As a result, the minor suffered third and second degree burn to her skin on the upper part of her forehead and face.  She had a complete recovery from her burns.
The case was settled for $150,000 (Tran vs. Mi La Cay China Chef, Inc.)

Woman Struck by Car While on Work Break

In a 2016 incident, a 46 year old manicurist was sitting on a chair on a walk space in front of her business on her break.  Suddenly defendant drove her car onto the pedestrian walking area and struck the client causing fractures to her right and left legs. 
The case was settled for $250,000 (Pham vs. Kahele).

Spine Injury After Falling from Ladder

​In a 2016 incident, a 63 year old woman was at her friend’s home and standing on top of a 6 feet ladder to get some fruit from a guava tree.  She lost her balance, the ladder fell and she landed on her back on top of the ladder.   She suffered a spinal Thoracic and Lumbar T12-L1 compression fracture along with severe spinal contusions. 
The case was settled for $250,000 (Nguyen vs. Pham).

Seminar Presented in Hanoi, Vietnam

In December 2015, we traveled to Vietnam and presented an informative session on the topics of immigration for investors, entity formation and investments in the United States.  The session was presented in a bi-lingual format and was enthusiastically received. As a result of the successful presentation we intend to offer to those participants a follow-up session to take place in Orange County, California.     

Bus Rollover Case Settled

An elderly woman was a passenger on a chartered bus which was returning from an outing.  It was raining and the bus driver lost control of the bus because he was driving at an excessive rate of speed for the conditions. The bus rolled over causing our client to suffer a fractured clavicle in the impact.  The case settled at Mediation for $125,000.00. 

A 67 Year Old Man Injured by Car out of Control

In a 3 car accident, our client, a  67 year old man was driving on Bushard Street in Fountain Valley in normal traffic.  A second driver attempted to enter Bushard Street from a side street when he impacted a third vehicle which in turn collided into our client's vehicle. 
Our client was taken to the Emergency Room for diagnostic examination including MRI and X-rays.  Fortunately, he had no fractures but did suffer from neck and back sprain and strain and received treatment consisting of physical therapy for three months.  We settled his case for the full policy limit.

Man on Moped Struck by Car

A seventy year old man riding a moped was exiting a parking lot of a shopping center when he was struck by a truck which was also exiting the parking lot of the shopping center.  The impact was a side swipe to the rear of the moped.  He was brought to the hospital and diagnosed with a fracture of the left leg.  The incident happened on July 25, 2014.  Following the healing of the fracture our Firm settled his case for the full policy limit of the negligent truck driver.

EB-5 Legislation Pending

The Congress is now considering extending the overseas investor EB-5 program which is scheduled to expire before the end of 2015. Among the revisions being discussed to the extension is an increase to the investment amount to $800,000 in targeted areas.  The current regulations require an investment of $500,000 in return for which the overseas investor and his family receive a green card upon funding of the qualified investment.

Dog Bite Cases Settled

In two recent dog bite cases, settlements were reached.  A teenage girl was visiting her friend and while she was petting the family dog, it suddenly lunged at her and bit her resulting in a scar on the nose.  This case was settled during trial for $225,000.  In the other case a teenage boy was playing in the backyard of his friend, when the family dog was given his meal, the boy approached and suddenly the dog lunged at him and bit him in the chin area resulting in a scar.  This case was settled in mediation for $145,000.
